ABOUT TONGA - TRANSPORT & COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATIONS Tonga has access to international communications through the installation of a satellite system. Access to the communication systems, including telephone, facsimile, e-mail, internet, Packet Switching , Frame Relay and Prepaid phone cards services are readily available. An AM radio broadcasting service operates in Nuku'alofa on the call sign A3Z and four FM stations on the dial signals 88.6, 89.1, 90, 93 respectively. Two free television services are operating, the Television Tonga which is Government owned, and the Oceania Broadcasting Network - TV7 which is operated by private enterprise. Two weekly newspapers are available locally: The Tongan Chronicle and The Times of Tonga. Magazines call 'Eva' and 'Matangi Tonga' are quarterly.

TRANSPORTATION
It is easy to island hop with small planes, though inter-island ferries do run regularly. Buses and taxis abound on the main islands, and rental cars are easy to find.
A number of airlines fly to and from Samoa and other destination points in the South Pacific.
These include Royal Tongan Airlines, Air New Zealand, Air Pacific (Qantas-Fiji codeshare), Air Fiji and Polynesian Airlines. Domestic flights in Tonga are by Royal Tongan Airlines. For more information, links to airline sites, travel arrangements, and route maps, click here.
The main international airport Fua'amotu, located in the main island of Tongatapu, is 22.5 km from Nuku'alofa, the capital.
